Through Operation Access, medical professionals throughout the Bay Area donate their time and skills to bring care to their neighbors in need. Thousands of people remain uninsured and have limited access to health care. Our partner community clinics depend on OA’s volunteer network as a critical, and often their only, resource for ambulatory surgical and diagnostic procedures for their uninsured patients.
The targeted and timely care our clients receive prevents emergencies and leads to positive health outcomes for individuals and their communities.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, please complete this Volunteer Interest Form, or contact an OA staff member in your county.
Physicians
Surgeon and specialist volunteers decide how many new referrals they want to accept. Primary care providers refer patients to OA, and whose staff ensure the referral information is complete, and that the patients are prepared for their appointments.
Some physicians participate in scheduled Saturday sessions during which multiple patients are served on a single day. While others serve patients by integrating them into their regular schedules.
For a summary of the procedures provided through OA, please click here.
Nurses and Technicians
Volunteer opportunities are open to nurses, technicians and support staff affiliated with medical facilities that schedule OA weekend and evening sessions. Please click here for more information regarding these scheduled events.
Interpreters
Many patients require an interpreter to receive high quality care. Interpreter volunteers must have strong language skills, participate in a training session and be available during business hours.
Applicants complete a verbal test as part of the acceptance process.
Administrative Volunteers
We have opportunities in our San Francisco office for administrative volunteers who support daily activities such as producing
patient correspondence, data entry, and filing. For more information, please click here.
Meet OA Volunteers
We simply could not do this work without the willingness of dedicated professionals who donate time and talent to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors. To learn more about the people who volunteer with OA, please Meet our Volunteers.
