Bay Area Program

Operation Access makes it possible for uninsured and underserved people to receive surgical and specialty care when they need it – free of charge – through a medical volunteer network in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, NapaSan Francisco, San Mateo, and Sonoma counties.

Over the past 21 years, 2500 medical professionals have provided 12000 services to 9000 individuals and the value of donated care exceeds $110 million. In 2013, over 1479 volunteer physicians, nurses, and technical staff affiliated with 40 hospitals, ambulatory care centers and 17 medical groups donated time, skills, equipment and supplies to 1840 patients.

Operation Access works to:
  • organize volunteers and medical centers to provide patient care;
  • manage clinic referrals;
  • screen patients for eligibility;
  • provide case management, and
  • coordinate all of the required administrative work.
We remove barriers to access so medical volunteers can focus on delivering the highest quality care. For information on the scope of outpatient services provided, view our procedures list.
